-
The scale length of 630 mm was chosen to give
the optimum balance of tension and ease of playing for the
finger-style guitarist; it can be altered - but not by much!
-
The neck width and depth, string spacing and neck shape can be altered to
suit your hand-size, playing style and preference - no problem!
-
The neck can have a zero fret as an option (as
fitted to Gordon's original).
-
The soundboard (table) can be
either European spruce (which I personally prefer), Sitka spruce or
Engelmann spruce.
-
Bindings; the choice is Maple, Ebony, Brazilian
Ropala Lacewood, European Lacewood, Bocote, Padauk or other complementary exotic wood of choice combined
with matching purfling of your choice
Available Options at additional cost - please enquire
-
Back and sides can be of Brazilian Rosewood,
Madagascar Rosewood, Mahogany, Flamed Maple,
English Walnut, Padauk, Palo Escrito (Mexican Rosewood), Zebrano,
Brazilian Lacewood or Wenge (you probably don't want Cypress!)
-
The wedge shaped body dramatically improves
comfort and playability and is available with the kind permission of
Linda Manzer.
-
The headstock can be slotted for that "vintage" look
as in Gordon's original.
-
Decoration; the rosette can be Abalone or various
burr veneers; you can have Abalone soundboard-edge purfling too if you
wish.
-
A Florentine cutaway was included in the original for
the improved access to higher frets which many of Gordon's
compositions demand. Alternatively a stepped-shoulder with a
12/14 fret join can be incorporated.
-
Tuning machines can be by Alessi, Waverley,
Rodgers or your choice.
-
For the ultimate performance "plugged in", I really do
recommend the Highlander IP-2 pickup with internal microphone,
but stunning results are obtainable from the K&K Pure Western Mini
but if you insist (!) I will fit any pickup of your choice.
Gordon Giltrap uses the Fishman Rare Earth Blend sound-hole pickup in
all his performance guitars.
